Abstract

The experience of professional architects, public associations and scientific institutions outside of Ukraine on the activities for creating cultural and artistic memory is a valuable basis for the creation and expanding of modern Ukrainian identity. Over the periods of emigration (1922‒1939, 1947‒1961, 1991), the Ukrainian idea having recreated the traditional and modernist images of Ukrainian folk architecture, took an active place in the global artistic processes. In the emigration stream a community of vigorous individuals formed which were ready to pave the way to sources of cultural and social being. The activities architects of V. Sichynskyi, V. Krychevskyi, S. and O. Timoshenko have become determining. Festivals, weeks, exhibitions and talks brought to life the Ukrainian society existing need in the discussion and spreading of taste to the Ukrainian ethnic culture of its currents and historical layers. Outside the homeland, the experience of Ukrainian identity was, first of all, the community around the church. From the first days of the immigration and social activities I. Volianskyi and the business of the Ukrainian church construction that he started, in the future ‒ the stream of construction of Ukrainian churches on new lands became the core around which Ukrainian society was established and an architectural tradition was formed.Secondly, the theme of sacralization of style characteristics of Ukrainian construction was spreading among Ukrainian institutions as well as socio‒cultural publications, art centers, scientific societies of the Ukrainian culture researchers. Diaspora architecture has become a treasure trove of professional values and a source for their restoration and development in Ukraine. Thanks to publications in magazines, the Ukrainian diaspora has preserved the Ukrainian style in modern architecture, which requires further indepth.
