ДЕКОР В АРХІТЕКТУРІ КІНЦЯ XIX ̶ПОЧАТКУ ХХ ст.: ТЛУМАЧНИЙ АСПЕКТ, КЛАСИФІКАЦІЯ

Abstract

. In an effort to meet aesthetic needs along with utilitarian ones, architects strove to make their creations the most expressive. Therefore, the decor of a building played a no less important role than proportional space and shape ratios. Accordingly, the discussion of decor was one of the key topics among architects. This piece further elaborates on the meaning of architectural decor, in particular, it covers theoretical studies of the concept of architectural decor from the standpoint of its
classification and based on bibliographic analysis of foreign and national sources. The meaning of the concept of “decor” in architecture as it was understood by architects of the late 19th and early 20th century has been expanded. Architectural decorative elements have been classified as a result of scientific literature analysis, field surveys, and comparative analysis and
using facades of Lviv's buildings of the late 19th and early 20th century as an example.
