Abstract

The article provides an overview of the problem of air pollution by objects of the oil industry. It was noted that in terms of hazard class, emission volumes and MPC excess, sulfur-containing compounds (hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans) create the greatest environmental hazard. The purpose of the work is to analyze the current state and prospects of the environmental problem created by emissions of sulfur-containing compounds at the facilities of the oil industry of Ukraine. In the oil industry, the greatest danger in the emissions of gaseous compounds is created by the storage tanks for petroleum products. It is shown that the level of environmental hazard of emissions from oil storage tanks during “big and small breaths” depends on the concentration of sulfur compounds in oils. Most of the oils in Ukraine are low-sulfur, but new explored oil fields are characterized by a high sulfur content. A worldwide trend of increased sulfur compounds in oils extracted from previously inaccessible fields is noted. The production volumes of such oils are steadily growing, which greatly aggravates the problem of environmental safety of the atmospheric air of entire regions and requires the use of special environmental protection measures. This problem is also exacerbated by the imperfection of environmental regulation on emissions and dispersion of sulfurcontaining compounds in the oil and gas industry of Ukraine.
