Abstract

Today, an urgent task in architectural science and practice is to create a humane and accessible architectural environment. This question is especially acute in the design of healthcare facilities. Creation of comfortable and ergonomic conditions in medical institutions, contributing to the recovery of patients and successful work of staff is an important architectural and design task. It is impossible to solve this problem without applying the principles of universal design in the formation of architectural environment of medical institutions. The article formulates 7 principles of universal design: equal use; flexibility in use; simple and intuitive use; easy perception of information; tolerance for mistakes; low level of physical effort; availability of required size and space. Practical application of these principles in the design of medical institutions is revealed.
The objects of foreign medical institutions, formed in the concept of universal design, are analyzed. It is shown that
applying the principles of universal design provides a comfortable and safe environment for all users; improves the
quality of services for clients, working conditions for medical personnel; reduces the cost of maintaining the facility
and, most importantly, forms a humane architectural environment.
