Abstract

In the article the definition of eclecticism and characteristic of eclecticism as the specific creative method in architecture
are given. The origins and characteristics of the eclectic architecture of the Russian empire XIX - early XX centuries are revealed, the main directions of its development are outlined and the chronological frames of them are identified.
